MAY DAY ANIMAL ACTION! - Let's try and stop bunnies being sold in public places in California!

Please support Sen. Ted Lieu's Senate Bill which would increase the penalty for animal abuse and outlaw selling animals in certain public places.

SUPPORT SENATE BILL 917

Senate Bill 917             Authors: Senator Ted Lieu

What the bill would do:
Increases penalty for animal abuse and prohibits the sale of animals in certain places.
What you can do: The State Senate is voting on MONDAY, May 2.

ON SUNDAY, MAY 1- MAY DAY FOR ANIMALS- PLEASE:

Talking Points:
  • Selling animals in parking lots and other public right-of-way venues only ensures the seller is protected and not the animals or purchaser. Unhealthy animals are often sold in these types of places, leaving them at risk of sickness, death and possibly exposing other animals to contagious illnesses.
  • Animals deserve basic protections, including the assurance they are well cared for. Selling animals in parking lots endangers their health.
  • Animal abuse is a serious crime that negatively impacts the affected animal, future animals, and is a public health risk. Those allowed to escape punishment for animal abuse may go onto harming others, including humans.
  • Our society deems animal abuse a severe crime. As such, it should be treated as a felony with stiff financial penalties instead of a wobbler that allows a first conviction to be treated as a misdemeanor. Senate Bill 917
Thanks to the bill author Senator Ted Lieu!
